It's Okay to be Single on Valentine's Day

Hearts day 2014

Valentine's Day sure is one of the loveliest holidays of the year. And because we are just few days away from the very special day, people's Facebook status posts are now about that day. Couples say they can't wait to spend time with their partners while single men and women say they are now looking for V-day dates.

But do we really need partners on valentine's day?

I just went through a break-up. And I guess, I'm still in the process of letting go, accepting and moving on. It was a long four years. And it's four years of my life I didn't regret. When I told my friends about what happened, their common reaction was, "Sayang dugay na mo" (It's a waste, you two were together for a long time). And yes, maybe, several people did not see this coming. I was one of them. I was one of those people who believed that a long-term relationship could stand the test of having a long-distance relationship. But no, they were wrong. We were wrong. I was wrong.
Thinking things over made me realize a lot of things. I realized that you should not try saving the relationship just because you think it would be such a waste to throw away your wonderful memories together. No, you are not throwing away memories when you end a relationship. You keep the memories with you, and they will always have a place in your mind, and perhaps your heart. And while it feels good holding on to memories, there might just be better moments out there waiting for you to be experienced.

Yet, you choose to stay because you are content with what you have. I realized that being content and being happy are two different things. You can be somewhat happy when you're content. But when you are happy, you are always contented.

I realized that feeling sorry for the 'other' person sometimes becomes the reason why you don't end the relationship. We must put in mind that being in love and feeling sorry are another two different things. Wouldn't you be more sorry holding on to that person even if the feelings are gone? Wouldn't letting go be a better idea?
I realized that sometimes good things come to an end. And putting an end to a thing might be just the good decision you can make, not for anybody else, but for yourself. An end to something good might be the start of something better.

I realized that being single doesn't mean being unloved. It simply means you are gearing up for something that will come to you at the right time. It might even be with the same person you loved before, just this time, it's the right time, and things will be better because you know you've grown - to be more mature, more responsible. And when that time comes, you know you are ready for it. You know you deserve it. You know it's for you.

I realized that nobody can make you happier but yourself. You are in charge of your own happiness. You do not need a partner on valentine's day. And yes, it's okay to be single on valentine's day. <3

“It hurts to let go. Sometimes it seems the harder you try to hold on to something or someone the more it wants to get away. You feel like some kind of criminal for having felt, for having wanted. For having wanted to be wanted. It confuses you, because you think that your feelings were wrong and it makes you feel so small because it's so hard to keep it inside when you let it out and it doesn't come back. You're left so alone that you can't explain. Damn, there's nothing like that, is there? I've been there and you have too. You're nodding your head.”

The Promise You Can't Keep

05-02-13
2 in the morning
(Phils.)

I was away for four whole months. I was away from you. And the day I went home, you were one of those people who fetched me right at the airport. Then at midnight, you told me how happy you were to see me again. And you promised that in the duration of my short stay here, you will never make me cry or try to hurt me. Days passed and I was happy… we were happy. You try to squeeze your schedule just so you can see me every single day. And I do my best to see you without missing any of the important things I have to do daily. But today was supposed to be a special day. I would have wanted to see you the soonest I can… but things happened. And tears just went running down my cheeks for almost the whole day today. I was inside my room for hours while you were there with your friends, talking and eating and laughing and drinking your hearts out. I was just inside my room, on my bed, hugging my pillow… crying myself to sleep. And each time I open my eyes, I feel my tears running down again.
You failed to keep your promise. :’(

PF: Pink Roses

02/22/13

Quick post. :)

Happy Friday! My Pink Fridays post for today will be something related to our recent celebration, the Valentines Day. I actually didn't receive anything from my boyfie who's at the other side of the world, literally. But still got some presents from my family. weee :)

So here's a photo of the bouquet of pink roses I got last February 14th.

The bouquet of pink roses + our cute pet dog at the back ;)
And that made my day! :) Flowers actually make me smile. Anyways, I still have some things to do. Plus, I've been a little busy preparing for our upcoming giveaway! Yes, you read it right. And it'll start very soon, sweeties! :)

Happy weekend! :)

Knock, knock! It's LOVE

02/12/13

Can you feel LOVE in the air now? We're just some days away from what we call the official Hearts' day, or Lovers' day; some people also fondly call it the SAD or Single Awareness Day. Whatever you call it, February 14, Thursday, is the Valentine's Day. And it just can't be stopped.

Are you looking forward to "that" day?

If your answer is YES and you're a GIRL, then I figure you might be very excited because you got the sweetest invite for a date on that day! Plus, the invite is coming from the guy you want to be with on that special day. Isn't that amazing? Well, that's totally a reason to look forward to that day. You may even want to fast forward to Feb 14 ASAP.

Meanwhile, if your answer is a YES and you're a boy, I guess you just scored that sweet "yes" from the girl of your dreams - to be your date on the 14th. *winks*

On the other hand, if your answer is a NO, regardless of gender, then you either have no date on the Valentines day, or your boyfriend/girlfriend/partner is away (like miles away) from you. It could also be because your long time crush is nowhere within your reach (no date with him/her or even an invite or a simple conversation). Or, you could be.. just hating the thought of Valentine's day and of love.

As for me, it doesn't really matter. I mean, my answer would be "Whatever." Don't get me wrong, but I actually love the thought of having a Valentine's Day, plus all the other perks going on before and after the special day. I love seeing hearts <3 everywhere.. in the mall, supermarkets, schools, and other public places. There are signs saying "Valentine's Day is Thursday, February 14." But somehow, I don't really have that excitement and enthusiasm for this year's V-Day. I could say a very big factor is because I don't have a date (my boyfie is in the Phils now, so we're literally miles away).

However, I still took photos of the beautiful flowers I saw in the store nearby. This is a sign that Valentine's Day is indeed just around the corner.

Which of these roses do you like? :) I like the white roses.

Anyway, I believe that being happy on the Valentine's Day is a decision. Having a partner is not just the key to being happy on that day. If you don't have a date with someone of the opposite sex, then spend your day with family or friends. Watch a movie with your groupie or barkada. Or treat your parents to a wonderful buffet dinner (including yourself and your siblings of course). Also, for the busy couples who would've wished they can meet on the V-Day but just can't because of work, school, etc., then you can still go out on the 15th, 16th, so on. A belated V-Day date is always as sweet. :)

I will end this blog post with the 5 simple rules of happiness: (which is a cliche and I do not know who the original source is)
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

And here's something from me (original*wink*): When LOVE knocks at your door, not just on V-Day but any day of the year, DO NOT be afraid to open it. Let it come in. It isn't just about a partner, it's about everyone and everything in your life.

Love love! Happy Hearts' Day! :) <3

I Skate!

01/31/13

Today's the last day of the first month of the new year. And what's next to January? It's the LOVE month, February! <3 Oh, how fast time can fly. Anyway, before we head towards Spring season and bid farewell to Winter, lemme share to you the exciting experience I had last Monday.

It was last week when we found out that my nephew would be having an Ice Skating Party as part of their school's activities this week. I have never tried ice skating before, and even roller skating (street skates with roller blades). And I've had several chances before to try ice skating but I never dared to. This time, I said YES to my sissy when she asked me if I wanted to go with my nephew.

I didn't skate before (about a month ago) at a highland here in San Diego because it's an outdoor ice skate rink and it's superdooper cold! We just went to that place because we wanted to do some shopping, actually. Then we saw there was an ice skate rink, I kinda thought of going for a try. But I backed out because I was chilling. Think about being on top of the ice, outdoor, in the middle of winter, and I have just arrived from a tropical country (I haven't adjusted well with the weather yet). So, I gave it a NO.

But no, it wasn't a NO. It was actually a NOT YET. :)

However, last Monday's scenario was different. It was an indoor skating center. And I think, I am excited to try. I wanted to brave enough to try. I want to toughen myself. Though I am aware that there is fear - Fear of failure.. fear of falling on my butt, to be specific.

So after I changed my shoes to ice skates, I slowly got up and walked towards the rink. I was feeling kinda nervous because there is actually quite a big number of children and adults skating on the rink. Making me nervous? Yes. Because it increases the possibility of me bumping into another skater. Or worse, knocking us both down.

And yes, I fell down on my butt.. so hard, it still hurts until now (about 3 days after the fall). The first fall was a few steps away from the sides.. just when I have just begun to let go of the sides. And it was one hard fall. But, I never gave up! :) I stood up. And I tried to skate again. Just slowly. There were countless times that I felt like I'm about to lose my balance, I just kinda swing my body so I'd be in control. I fell down again. But I don't cry, I smile. Stand up. And try again. Until I learned how to do it. Just the neophyte-kind-of-skating. It's actually more of walking. Haha! But it's fine, at least I can move thru the ice now. *winks*

Falling down can cause pain. But it helps one to be stronger, braver, more determined. If by the first time you don't make it, try again. Maybe the second try would be better. Well for me, learning the thing was difficult. I fell hard. I got hurt. But it was worth it. In the end, I am happy.

Let's skate through the ice of life! :)
